Could you envision “seeing” chemical reactions being catalyzed at the atomic-scale? Two or more scholarships are now open for experimental research in nanoparticle catalysis using advanced operando electron microscopy at the Center for Visualizing Catalytic Processes (VISION).

VISION is developing and applying a new unique platform for visualizing catalytic nanoparticles and reactions at the atomic-level by integrating cutting-edge electron microscopy, microfabricated nanoreactors, nanoparticle synthesis and computational modelling. This approach enables new, direct operando observations that are urgently needed to advance mechanistic insight into catalytic processes at the atomic-scale.

We seek a motivated, curious, and outgoing PhD candidate with a solid background in optical communication, laser physics or nonlinear optics. Experience with machine learning, digital signal processing and experimental work is a plus.

The project goal is to explore various machine learning techniques to realize feedback control that can enable spectral shaping and quantum noise limited operation. The project will cover both numerical simulations, algorithm development as well as experimental implementations.

This project aims at the application of MOR to the optimization of electroacoustic devices that involve the interaction of mechanical and acoustical domains, i.e. vibroacoustics. You will collaborate with the company PURIFI, a research-based producer of high-end loudspeaker units with wide practical experience on transducer non-linearities, measurement methods, and optimization techniques.
