Are you passionate about protein science and eager to turn data into actionable insights? Do you enjoy hands-on lab work and using biophysical methods to solve real production challenges? Join our Biophysics team at Novo Nordisk, where your expertise will help ensure the stability and quality of life-changing medicines.
Apply now and make your mark in a role that blends science, impact, and innovation!
Your new role
As a Scientist in Biophysics, you will engage in troubleshooting to develop a biophysical understanding related to changes in our production processes, as well as in connection with deviation handling. Your work will range from evaluating the stability of new sample types to optimizing analytical methods and supporting the evaluation of routine samples. The role offers a high level of independence and flexibility, along with significant responsibility for providing guidance and recommendations to stakeholders regarding physical stability. You will work closely with process scientists, supporting them with your expertise in physical stability and the analytical evaluation of biophysical parameters—curiosity about production processes and their impact on molecular stability is essential. You will design experiments to support decision-making and provide recommendations on physical stability. Together with our talented lab technicians, you will ensure that analyses are conducted, results are evaluated, and findings are presented to your collaboration partners.
The current methods we work with include:
- Fluorescence Spectroscopy e.g. for investigation of protein fibrillation
- Dynamic and Static light Scattering (DLS/SLS)
- Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR)
- Particle Size Distribution analysis using laser diffraction
- Absorbance measurements of protein solutions and Turbidity
You will be part of a team (Biochemistry and Biophysics) of 18 people, engaging in a dynamic work environment, with many different competences and overlapping areas of responsibility. Currently 3-4 people are working with biophysics.
Your new department
The department is responsible for providing analytical support to Manufacturing Development’s optimisation projects, as well as supporting process and analytical development for new products. The department plays a vital role in support to the production and QC-laboratory in PS API at site Kalundborg. We are 69 engaged employees organized in four teams.
Your skills & qualifications
You hold a PhD degree in Life Sciences with experience in biophysics and a comprehensive understanding of protein and peptide biochemistry and biophysics. Experience with protein aggregation or fibrillation is an advantage.
To succeed in this role, you have:
- Knowledge or interest in production processes.
- Protein solution behaviour and stability knowledge is expected.
- Expertise with one or more of the characterization methods such ThT fibrillation assay, FT-IR, DLS, SLS and laser diffraction as well as the underlying physical principles.
- Ability to find solutions based on insights into scientific challenges.
- Desire to work with laboratory automation and ability to develop fit-for-purpose assays in a close collaboration with our talented lab-techs.
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
