Your job responsibilities

As Associate Professor of Synaptic Plasticity and Memory Modulation your primary tasks will be research and research-based teaching. You will teach and supervise students at pre- and postgraduate level, and you will contribute to the development of the department through research of high international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with both Danish and international colleagues.

The focus of this position is leading research on the molecular and circuit mechanisms of forgetting. The successful candidate will integrate state-of-the-art techniques such as optogenetics, in vivo electrophysiology, calcium imaging by Miniscopes, and spatial transcriptomics to elucidate how VPS10P domain receptors modulate memory decay.
Your main tasks will consist of:
  • Conducting independent research of high international quality, including publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Leading a research programme investigating the neurobiology of forgetting.
  • Teaching, mentoring, and examining bachelor’s and master’s degree students, as well as supervising PhD students.
  • Contributing to the attraction of external research funding to support ongoing and future projects.
  • Engaging in outreach activities and scientific dissemination to the broader public.
  • Participating in departmental and faculty-level initiatives to develop the research and teaching environment.

You will report to Professor Anders Nykjær and the Head of Department.

The successful candidate must be proficient in optogenetics, in vivo electrophysiology, mouse behavior, and have a proven track-record within the research field of forgetting.

Your competences

  • The candidate must have demonstrated independent research-related qualifications at high international level within the research field of circuit mechanisms and forgetting. Research experience within the field of VPS10P-domain receptor biology is an advantage. You are a clear communicator with experience in supervision and teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Experience with the establishment of PhD courses and external research collaborations will be a plus. The ideal candidate demonstrates a track record in securing competitive research funding. International pre- and postdoctoral experience is expected.
The following skills are required:
  • A proven track record in optogenetics, in vivo electrophysiology, network analysis and in mouse behavior and memory-related measures.
  • The applicant should have completed a University Pedagogical Course and substantially contributed to teaching activities for graduate and undergraduate students.

As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are friendly and helpful and able to contribute to a good work environment.
