Participant Training Assistant

Term-limited role through November 30, 2028

U.S. Embassy Copenhagen – U.S. Military Group (MILGP) Denmark

Join our international, mission-driven workplace at the heart of U.S.–Danish defense cooperation.

The U.S. Embassy in Copenhagen is looking for a well-organized, resourceful, and security-minded Participant Training Assistant to join the U.S. Military Group (MILGP) Denmark. In this role, you'll lead MILGP training programs that support Danish Defense, help strengthen U.S.–Danish military partnerships, and contribute to shared NATO security goals.

If you're motivated by security cooperation, program management, and the chance to work where diplomacy meets defense, this role puts you at the center of the U.S.–Denmark security relationship.

As the MILGP's lead for Danish Defense training programs, you will:

  • Run the U.S. Department of War (DoW)–Danish Defense Security Cooperation Training Program
  • Support about 225 Danish Defense students a year who attend DoW courses
  • Coordinate daily with DoW and Danish Defense training units across the Air Force, Army, and Navy
  • Look for opportunities for U.S. forces to train with Danish Defense and take part in Danish-led exercises
  • Provide translation and interpretation support for DoW personnel

You'll work under the direct supervision of the MILGP Chief. You'll manage a wide range of important MILGP programs in a collaborative environment where your judgment, diplomacy, and organizational skills make a daily difference.

This position suits someone who thrives on complexity, enjoys working across two languages and cultures, and wants their work to have a real impact on transatlantic security.

What You'll Do

  • Manage Foreign Military Sales (FMS) training: Program, execute, and administer the training program. Prepare course cost analyses and programming forecasts. Set program priorities and resolve policy and funding issues.
  • Plan for the future: Assess Danish Defense training needs against national and NATO lines of effort. Develop multi-year Danish Defense training plans each year, covering technical competency courses and officer and enlisted professional military education.
  • Use joint exercises: Use DoW and Danish Defense combined and joint exercises to meet training requirements. Keep up with new training opportunities, exercises, events, and courses.
  • Handle student documentation and travel: Maintain program and student records, including medical screening, pre-briefing certificates, security clearance verifications, and Leahy vetting. Prepare and issue invitational travel orders (ITOs).
  • Track weapons systems accountability: Track DoW military equipment that Danish Defense acquires through FMS, Direct Commercial Sales, or other means.
  • Manage MILGP files and vehicles: Serve as the MILGP staff file manager and as vehicle manager and dispatcher, in line with USEUCOM and U.S. Embassy directives.
  • Translate, interpret, and liaise: Translate defense, NATO, political, military, and economic materials, and summarize key items verbally and in writing. Act as liaison officer with Kastellet personnel to arrange meetings and provide logistics and supply support.

Why Work with Us

  • You'll directly strengthen U.S.–Denmark defense cooperation and NATO security.
  • You'll join a dynamic, international, collaborative, and purpose-driven workplace.
  • You'll receive competitive pay and benefits in line with U.S. Mission Copenhagen policies and Danish labor law.
  • You'll grow your skills in leadership, program management, security cooperation, diplomacy, and foreign affairs.

Qualification Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least three years of experience in program management.
  • Excellent knowledge of Danish military, political, economic, and social structures, institutions, and history. Familiarity with USEUCOM and U.S. Embassy security cooperation objectives, and with U.S. Department of War structures and goals.
  • Language Requirements: English and Danish: fluent (Level 4) in speaking, reading, and writing, which may include the ability to translate.

We may test your language skills.

  • Strong motivation to improve security for the U.S., Denmark, and NATO. Ability to build effective relationships with DoW and Danish Defense personnel. Ability to carry out and follow up on complex security cooperation issues. Ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English and Danish. Diplomacy, sound judgment, and effective organizational skills.
  • License Danish driver's license required.

This position is a temporary position until November 30, 2028.
