Electrical Motor Expert, Fan Applications
Location: Randers, Denmark
Company: Multi‑Wing Group
Department: R&D, Motors & Drives
Multi‑Wing is a global leader in custom‑designed axial fan solutions for the HVAC/R and powertrain cooling industries. For more than 60 years we have optimized airflow to make heating and cooling more efficient, flexible, and quiet, contributing to a safer, healthier planet for future generations.
We are now looking for an Electrical Motor Expert, Fan Applications to strengthen our global R&D organisation in Denmark.
The role
You will be our in‑house expert on electrical motors for axial fan systems. Your main focus is to select, evaluate, qualify, and validate motors for fan applications across HVAC/R, powertrain cooling, and industrial markets.
You will translate product and customer requirements into robust motor specifications, assess suppliers and technologies, and ensure that the motors we choose are efficient, reliable, controllable, and well‑integrated into our fan systems. The role combines deep technical knowledge of electric motors with a practical understanding of fan behaviour and real‑world operating conditions.
You will work closely with colleagues in R&D, product management, sourcing, quality, and manufacturing, as well as with global suppliers.
Key responsibilities
- Lead motor selection and application engineering for axial fan systems based on performance targets, operating profiles, environments, and commercial constraints.
- Evaluate different technologies (AC, EC, BLDC, induction, PM motors) and define motor requirements (power, torque, speed, duty cycle, efficiency, thermal/insulation class, IP rating, environmental robustness).
- Ensure compatibility between motors and fan systems, including operating windows, load behaviour, and system‑level efficiency.
- Define and execute motor qualification and validation, including criteria for electrical performance, thermal behaviour, vibration, noise, lifetime, and reliability.
- Support and review lab and field tests, supplier data, and deviations, and drive root cause analysis when motors do not meet expectations.
- Act as the technical lead in supplier and technology evaluation, reviewing designs, test data, and capabilities, and supporting sourcing in supplier selection and audits.
- Support system integration topics such as electrical interfaces, motor-drive matching, thermal limits, mechanical interfaces, and environmental constraints.
- Ensure motors meet relevant standards and compliance requirements, and maintain clear documentation (approved motor lists, qualification results, risk assessments).
- Share expertise internally, contribute to guidelines and best practices, and support customer discussions where motor performance is critical.
What we are looking for
Education and experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or similar.
- Experience with motor selection, application engineering, technical qualification, and/or supplier evaluation.
- Solid understanding of electric motor performance in variable load applications (ideally including fans or similar rotating machinery).
- Experience with validation and testing of motors in real product environments.
Technical skills
- Strong knowledge of motor technologies, efficiency behaviour, speed-torque characteristics, thermal limits, insulation systems, and reliability.
- Understanding of motor control principles and the interaction between motors, drives, and load profiles.
- Ability to translate system requirements into motor specifications and qualification criteria.
- Experience reading and interpreting test reports, datasheets, compliance documents, and technical drawings.
- Familiarity with relevant standards and qualification methods for electrical motors is a plus.
- Comfortable using standard engineering tools; experience with motor sizing/simulation and ERP/PLM systems is an advantage.
Personal profile
- Self‑motivated and proactive, with a strong sense of technical ownership.
- Structured, analytical, and detail‑oriented, with a focus on quality and reliability.
- Pragmatic, able to balance technical performance with cost, availability, and product constraints.
- Strong collaborator and communicator, able to explain complex topics to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Willing to travel as needed for supplier visits, testing, and global project collaboration.
- Strong English skills (B2–C1); additional languages are a plus.
Why join Multi‑Wing?
- Work in a global technology leader in axial fan solutions with a clear sustainability purpose: shaping airflow for future generations.
- Play a central role in defining our motor strategy and platforms for future products.
- Collaborate with skilled colleagues in a cross‑functional, international environment.
- Enjoy a role with real impact on product performance, quality, and customer satisfaction.
