Legal Counsel
BEC is looking for a Legal Counsel to join our team – if you’re an experienced legal professional with around 3-6 years of practice, we’d love to hear from you. The role will give you the opportunity to take responsibility for exciting legal tasks while continuing to develop your skills in a collaborative team environment.
BEC is dedicated to driving innovation and delivering value in the financial industry through cutting-edge technology solutions. We are transitioning from a traditional IT vendor building our own banking platform to becoming the leading fintech integrator for Danish banks - buying and integrating market-leading technologies instead of developing our own.
As a member of our Legal team, you will play a key role in enabling this digital transformation. You will provide clear, business-oriented legal advice on a wide range of matters, often at the intersection of technology and financial regulation, helping ensure that our solutions are compliant, commercially sound and aligned with BEC’s risk appetite.
We are a team of seventeen colleagues working across core legal work, GDPR compliance and Sector Compliance. The core legal team consists of six legal counsels, five GDPR advisors, three sector compliance advisors, one assistant, and two student assistants who contribute across all areas.
Our work spans a broad range of legal tasks, including contract drafting and negotiating, providing legal and regulatory guidance, and occasionally preparing legal memos. A key part of our role is to support our colleagues with clear, business-oriented advice on legal, contractual, and process-related matters.
We are driven by a clear purpose: to support that BEC complies with legal and regulatory requirements and enters into sound agreements with both customers and vendors. At the same time, we recognize that our ultimate goal is to enable BEC to do business effectively, responsibly and sustainably.
We also place strong emphasis on making BEC a great place to work by fostering a positive work culture and arranging a variety of social events throughout the year
Primary tasks and responsibilities include:
- Review, drafting and negotiating both vendor and customer contracts – primarily IT contracts.
- Advice and guide business stakeholders on legal aspects and risks, related to amongst others (depending on skills and interests):
- Information technology legislation.
- Regulatory compliance.
- Corporate matters.
- Competition and confidentiality matters.
- Stay updated and work with sector relevant regulations.
- Provide input to relevant BEC policies and business procedures.
- Drafting and maintaining contract templates.
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- Experience as either in-house counsel or as an attorney in a law firm.
- Experience in reviewing, drafting and negotiating contracts, ideally within the IT or finance industry.
- High proficiency in Danish and English, written and spoken.
- An eye for details and structure while maintaining a holistic perspective when resolving problems efficiently.
- Professional pride in the quality of your work – we strive to be best in class.
- Exceptional stakeholder and interpersonal skills.
- Capable of working both independently and in teams.
- Strong personal credibility, establishing trust and confidence in your relations.
- A curious mindset, eagerness to share knowledge and a willingness to challenge conventions.
- Ownership of professional development of yourself and BEC as an organization.
- Experience or at least an interest in working with complex contracts at the intersection of IT, financial and technology regulations, such as DORA/NIS 2/FIL, the Data Act, and the AI Act.
At BEC, we work in a hybrid remote model, coming into the office an average of 3 days a week and with an option to work remotely for 2 days a week. Your direct manager will be Head of Legal, Simon Hutters.
