PhD scholarship in Oxyfuel Combustion on Cement Plants

A PhD scholarship on oxyfuel at cement plants with special focus on implications for Calciner operation is available now. The project will be conducted in a collaboration with the company FLSmidth (FLS) and the Danish Technological Institute (DTI). By implementation of oxyfuel combustion on cement plants it will be possible to provide a concentrated CO2 gas, which can be sequestrated and thereby the production of CO2 neutral cement will be possible.

The primary aim of the PhD project will be to develop a computer model of a calciner system used on an oxyfuel fired cement plant. The model shall provide information on the influence of changes in operation conditions and design. The model shall be applied to investigate how a change in CO2 recirculation influences particle fluid dynamics, as well as fuel conversion and calcination.
