The Department of Health Technology (DTU Health Tech) invites applicants for a 3-year PhD in sleep analytics and biological data sciences.

The ultimate purpose of the PhD project is to link genetic information (for ex. GWAS, WGS) with blood biomarkers (proteomics), sleep signals (for example REM sleep or Periodic Leg Movements during Sleep), and subjective sleep symptoms (for example sleep paralysis or Restless Leg Syndrome). In this position, you can expect to perform data analysis on tens of thousands of laboratories recorded sleep studies, in combination with large scale genetic, proteomic, and medical/questionnaire data. One data type will be sleep study data, or polysomnography (PSG).

The Department of Health Technology (DTU Health Tech) invites applicants for a 3-year interdisciplinary PhD scholarship within the fields of biomedical engineering and sleep/brain science.

The candidate will design advanced digital signal processing and machine learning techniques on nocturnal polysomnography (PSG) signals and imaging data. A PSG is a sleep study, which is comprised of multiple digital signals measured during night, such as electroencephalography (EEG), electrocardiography (ECG), electromyography (EMG), electrooculography (EOG), and several respiratory signals. In this position, the candidate can expect to perform BIG DATA analysis on tens of thousands of recorded sleep studies.

A 3-year PhD Scholarship starting 1 May 2022 is available in the Ubiquitin Signalling and Inflammation Laboratory led by Associate Professor Rune Busk Damgaard.

The PhD student will spearhead an ambitious project aiming to identify new mechanisms in ubiquitin signalling that control cell fate decisions, transcription factor activation, and cell viability during inflammation. Such mechanisms may be druggable and could ameliorate certain aspects of autoinflammatory disease.

The project aims to understand the mechanisms by which M1-linked (linear) ubiquitin chains control the assembly and stability of key signalling complexes that regulate cell fate decisions at the interface of inflammatory signalling and cell death.

The Hempel Foundation Coatings Science and Technology Centre (CoaST), DTU Chemical Engineering is presently seeking a skilled and experienced electron microscopy specialist who will help the CoaST scientists and engineers with their research efforts and activities in CoaST.

The candidate is expected to support the research efforts in CoaST and will work closely together with a diverse group of students, scientists, researchers, experts, technicians, and other personnel inside and outside DTU Chemical Engineering. Amongst others the main tasks will be:

  • Designing novel microscopy based research methodologies in the field of coatings technology
  • Teaching and training students and researchers to prepare specimens
  • Training the students and researchers to operate electron microscopy equipment safely and effectively

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet PhD project: Recovery of phosphorous and removal of heavy metals from lake sediment by electrodialysis

DTU Civil Engineering is inviting applications for a 3-year PhD position starting March 2022. The overall aim of the project is to develop an electrodialytic method for simultaneous recovery of phosphorous and separation of heavy metals from contaminated lake sediments.

The PhD project is part of a large project, RePair. The goal of RePair is to promote a paradigm shift in lake management by restoring freshwater bodies by transforming lake sediment and P polluted lake water into a valuable resource and simultaneously combat any harmful effects on the environment.

The PhD project will focus on resource recovery from heavy metal contaminated lake sediments. The research is experimentally based. It includes development, test and optimization of an electrodialytic method for removal of heavy metals simultaneously to recover the extracted P.

In your PhD project, you will develop and explore sensing protocols for optically trapped nanodiamonds to conduct magnetic resonance sensing in a microfluidic setting and contribute to efforts by other team members on measurements of intracellular mechanical properties and local temperature inside single biological cells. Your research will be instrumental for our future ability to conduct in-situ, local NMR spectroscopy inside such single cells.
