Applications are invited for a 3-year PhD position starting in the period October-December 2016. The project is funded by Innovation Fund Denmark and by DTU, and it is part of the DeRisk research project involving DTU Wind Energy, DTU Mechanical Engineering, DTU Compute, DHI, DONG, Statoil, University of Oxford and Stavanger Universitet.
The purpose of the PhD project is to develop, implement, validate and apply numerical Uncertainty Quantification methods to achieve accelerated and improved prediction of marine loads on offshore wind turbines. Modern numerical models for wave transformation enable accurate deterministic computation of these loads, but in a realistic setting several model parameters, such as incident wave elevation and bottom friction, are stochastic variables.

A 3 year Ph.D. position is available in the Department of Photonics, Technical University of Denmark (DTU).
The goal of this specific project is to investigate mid-IR supercontinuum generation by exploiting negative nonlinearity solitons (“negatons”) in waveguides in quadratic nonlinear mid-IR transparent crystals, especially lithium niobate (LN).
Negatons are solitons that form in the normal dispersion regime, making the waveguide dispersion requirement obsolete as the normal dispersion regimes of mid-IR materials overlap with near-IR laser wavelengths.

The Technical University of Denmark has an open PhD position (early-stage researcher) in a new research direction, where the best of quantum optics and metamaterials are merged together.
Quantum emitters (QEs) are the backbone element of quantum optics aiming for quantum cryptography and quantum computing with a strong impact on communications. The unique properties of materials with zero refractive index, where also epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) materials are classified, open a very intriguing challenge to control the interaction of quantum emitters.
In many cases depending on the wavelengths of radiation such medium does not exist in nature, but it can be constructed artificially. Here we apply the metamaterials concept, and acquire required optical properties by smart structurization.
