DTU Fotonik works with all areas of photonic engineering. The department is now seeking to employ a PhD student to conduct research on using metamaterial platform in biomedical applications, in particularly for detection of cardiac biomarkers.
Detection and identification of trace amount of molecules has immense impact not only on fundamental research but also on the various applications from environmental monitoring to medical and clinical diagnosis.
Therefore, this PhD project aims at developing a sensing platform based on novel metamaterial structures to enhance the sensitivity of molecular detections in mid-infrared wavelengths. We especially aim at the detection of cardiac biomarkers, that is, certain proteins in blood, whose concentration serves as an indicator of “heart attack”, dramatically increasing when one’s heart has a problem.
DTU, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Section for Manufacturing Engineering has a vacant 3-year PhD position in numerical modeling of micro plasto hydrostatic and hydrodynamic lubrication mechanisms. The position is to be filled March 1st, 2019 or soon after that.
Tribology is important for process feasibility, tool wear and component quality in metal forming. Some of the lubrication mechanisms can be enhanced by tailoring tool and workpiece surfaces or by optimizing process parameters.
Numerical simulation of these mechanisms represents an important step towards further understanding of the fundamentals as well as a valuable method to assist the optimization of metal forming processes from a lubrication point of view. The specific area of the PhD project is simulation of micro plasto hydrostatic and hydrodynamic lubrication mechanisms.

The Danish Hydrocarbon Research and Technology Centre (Centre for Oil and Gas – DTU), Technical University of Denmark (DTU), invites applicants for research assistant positions on numerical modelling of flow and transport in fractured media. Centre for Oil and Gas – DTU is established by the Danish Underground Consortium and DTU.
The position will be an integrated part of the advanced water flooding programme with the focus on improving our understanding of coupled THMC proccesses in fractured media.

The successful candidate will work at the Imaging Industry Portal part of the 3D Imaging Center. The LINX (Linking Industries to Neutrons and X-rays) project aims at extending the existing research methods within material science using neutrons and X-rays to solve industry relevant research and development problems.
The DTU part of the LINX project is focusing on X-ray and neutron imaging techniques for material characterization. Research in the Qvortrup group is focused on the use of organic chemistry to solve problems in biology. This includes design and development of new improved drugs, as well as the use of synthetic molecules to systematically investigate the functions of genes, cells and biological pathways in living systems.

An assistant professor position is available in the Colloids and Biological Interfaces (CBIO) group headed by Professor Thomas L. Andresen, DTU Nanotech, the Technical University of Denmark, Kgs. Lyngby. The assistant professorship is a permanent entry-level faculty position.
The overall aim of the research group is to develop novel nanocarrier systems for improved drug delivery and through careful characterization of the nanocarriers and their interactions, gain insight into the mechanisms that affect and ultimately govern uptake in vivo.
This position will focus on utilizing electron microscopy to characterize novel nanomaterials and their interactions with biological systems, including both cell and animal models.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering (DTU Mekanik) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) has an ERC Starting Grant (project acronym: UniEqTURB) sponsored opening for a 3-year PhD position in the area of Experimental and Theoretical turbulence.
Within the scope of the project, the student will conduct high-end experiments in collaboration with international world-leading experts (with the possibility of a dual PhD-degree).
The student will analyze the data in novel ways to test the validity of the existing theories of turbulence and attempt to synthesize a new theory based on the empirical results. The measurements will be conducted using the latest developments in optical flow diagnostics for turbulence measurements, including Particle Tracking/Image Velocimetry.
A postdoctoral position is available in scale-up and design of bioreactors for fermentation processes using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). In fermentation, the scale-up of laboratory bioreactors to production scale is a bottleneck on development of processes due to changes in scale and process dynamics.
The rules of thumb commonly applied only provide a starting point for the scale-up strategy. In this respect, the use of computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulations provides an inexpensive way of obtaining detailed information about fluid flows in tanks of different sizes. Moreover, the simulations are essential for understanding the substrate concentration profiles during fermentation processes.
