Expectations
The appointee will develop their own independent research profile within their chosen field in collaboration with colleagues at Aarhus University as well as nationally and internationally. Their research will be at the highest international level following their own scientific interests and priorities and they will establish a vibrant research group utilizing external funding. They will develop new curricula and teach classroom-based as well as field-based courses and supervise students at all academic levels. Depending on research field, interest in collaborating with industrial partners and/or other research units at Aarhus University would be beneficial.
The applicant must include a description of how they propose to develop their own unique research profile and their own research group but also reflect on potential synergies and collaborations within the Department of Geoscience and/or Aarhus University in general.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will hold a PhD degree in a relevant natural science discipline, be in strong international research standing, and have a broad multidisciplinary research network. Their scientific profile will be reflected in publications in peer-reviewed international journals. Proven ability to attract external research funding and documented teaching skills are required, while experience as group leader will be beneficial.
About the Department of Geoscience
The place of work is the Department of Geoscience, Høegh-Guldbergs Gade 2, 8000 Aarhus. The Department of Geoscience currently employs around 80 staff including faculty, externally funded researchers, postdocs, PhD students, and administrative and technical personnel. We have a strong research profile spanning a broad range of geological and geophysical disciplines within the fields of Climate and Environment, Water and Surface Processes, and Energy and Earth Resources.
We have outstanding research and teaching infrastructure including geophysical, geochemical, sedimentological, and micropalaeontological laboratories, core scanning facilities, including a well-equipped class 100 metal-free clean-laboratory, two ICP-MS, and TCN dating facilities. https://geo.au.dk/en/research/faciliteter/laboratories/facilities. We also have the largest pool of hydrogeophysical electromagnetic research instruments in the world as well a high-quality marine and land-based seismic equipment. There exist strong links to other departments at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Faculty of Technical Sciences and faculty of Arts such as Physics and Astronomy, Engineering, and Archaeology.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications the Head of Department, with assistance from the Assessment Committee Chairperson and the Hiring Committee, selects the candidates to be evaluated by an independent Assessment Committee of experts. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to the Assessment Committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the Committee and will receive their assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed, a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants

Formalities and salary range
Natural Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, PhD diploma, a complete list of publications, information on past and present research activities, a statement of future research plans including an explanation of how the applicant will develop their own unique research profile, as well as a teaching portfolio including information on previous teaching experience and course evaluations by students (if any). They should also describe how they fit into the Department’s current research and teaching profile, and how they envision collaboration development. Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
