Full Professor Position in Biochemistry and Bioengineering
The section SDU Chemical Engineering at the Department of Green Technology, University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Odense invites candidates to apply for a Full Professor position in the fields of Biochemistry and Bioengineering with focus on biochemical processes in agricultural wastes and molecular level solutions to mitigate pollutions and emissions from agriculture. The main responsibilities of the position are research, innovation, and research-based teaching. The position is available from 1st November 2025, or as soon as possible hereafter.
Responsibilities
The candidate will lead the section’s research within biochemistry and bioengineering and is expected to primarily conduct research within proteins, enzymes, and microbial biochemical processes relevant for the research focus areas. The applicant should demonstrate the ability to perform research in an interdisciplinary field involving competences from biochemistry, biology, agricultural science, and chemical engineering.
The successful candidate must contribute with teaching, supervision, and the development of educational activities, and is responsible for obtaining external funding, lead research projects and a research team, and conduct high quality research in 4-5 of the research focus areas:
· Research in the biochemical and microbiological processes in feces and slurry.
· Novel strategies for inhibition of enzyme- and microbial activities in feces and slurry for reduction of ammonia and methane production.
· Innovation, development, application, and demonstration of biochemical solutions for mitigation of pollutions and emissions from agriculture to support the green transition.
· Protein chemistry, enzyme research, and screening of compounds against target proteins and bacteria.
· Upscaling of biochemical processes and methods.
Qualifications and competences
The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering or related areas. We are seeking a highly motivated, collaborative candidate, who prior to this position has been employed at a minimum as associate professor with well-documented research and teaching obligations within Biochemistry and/or Bioengineering, including teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, development of new courses, and supervision of bachelor, master, and PhD students. Experience with academic leadership or organizational work is an advantage.
The candidate must have strong experience with different traditional and advanced methods and techniques applied within protein research, biochemistry, and microbiology, and should have strong experience with research team and project management and a strong track record of research and funding within 3-4 of the following research fields:
· Protein chemistry (e.g. protein expression, purification, identification, and characterization).
· Enzyme research (e.g. characterization, inhibition, and modulation of enzymatic activities).
· Agricultural science.
· Environmental technology.

Conditions of employment
Appointment as full professor is permanent. Employment will be in accordance with the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations for academics in the state with the associated circular on the protocol for the job structure for academic staff at Danish universities and the provisions for a full professor as described herein.
