Postdoc Position: Edge AI for Goal-Oriented Semantic Communication
Join us at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Aarhus University, where we are developing semantic-aware communication that leverage edge AI, semantic reasoning, and efficient time-series data representation, to support task-driven decision-making under resource and latency constraints for 6G communication systems
Expected start date and duration of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term position for one year, starting on October 1, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The initial contract will end on September 30, 2026, or 12 months from the actual start date. A one-year extension may be possible.
Job description
Your key responsibilities include
- research related to semantic representation and reasoning on time-series data;
- designing and implementing Edge AI for real-time analytics and decision-making;
- Designing energy-efficient, low-latency communication strategies;
- Publishing high-impact research and contributing to outreach and dissemination activities.
In addition, you will take part in seminars of NUEI (Nordic University Collaboration on Edge Intelligence) project, funded by NordForsk. You will also have opportunities to co-supervise bachelor’s and master’s thesis project.
Your profile
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a background in machine/deep learning, and communication networks. The required qualifications include:
- PhD in computer engineering, electrical engineering, communication engineering, computer science, or a related field.
- Documented experience with deep learning techniques (e.g., CNNs, Transformers)
- Strong programming skills in Python and experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch)
- Experience in working with time-series data
- Good understanding of Internet of Things, wireless communication network and systems
- Strong publication record relative to career stage
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills
Following qualifications will be considered as an advantage:
- Experience with explainable AI methods
- Experience with collaborative, cross-cultural research environments.

This position will be anchored at Communication, Control & Automation Section at ECE and will be supervised by Professor Qi Zhang, whose research focuses on Edge Intelligence, Goal-oriented Semantic Communications, Internet of Things, Data Compression and analytics, and Tactile Internet.

Deadline

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. Formalities and salary range
Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
