Postdoc in Neuroscience with focus on epileptogenesis
The position is an externally funded research position where you as a member of the Mikkelsen lab will be exploring the mechanisms involved in epileptogenesis. The work will be done at the Neurobiology Research Unit, Rigshospitalet, in close collaboration with other members of the team as well as clinical researchers at the Epilepsy clinic, Neurology Centre.
Information on the department of Neuroscience can be found at: www.in.ku.dk

Our research
Our experimental and clinical teams explore the changes occurring in the brain under the progression of treatment resistant epilepsy. We are particular interested in understanding the mechanisms behind treatment resistance in temporal lobe epilepsy. It is believed that neuronal normal networks under the progression of the disease becomes dysfunctional. Probably also non-neuronal cells and neuroinflammation are involved in this pathology. We are interested in defining these changes, by identifying the cells and mechanisms involved in the pathology both in animal models of disease as well as in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy.
The research team consists today of one post doc, two PhD students, and three master students in neuroscience, molecular biomedicine and human biology. We work together in a productive, diverse, creative, and interdisciplinary environment where we discuss our work and science in more general terms. We also work together with strong international partners.
Your job
You will apply histological, molecular and biochemical methods to explore the role of presynaptic proteins in animal models of epilepsy, in cellular models, and in clinical samples. The work is highly translational and will involve a variety of technologies to identify the expression of synaptic vesicle glycoprotein 2A (SV2A) and other synaptic proteins under various conditions. We expect you will be able to design and conduct neurobiological research studies independently and professionally together with junior scientists in the team that you supervise. You will be communicating your results at internal meetings, at conferences and in scientific publications, so communications skills are important in this role. We emphasise personal relationships and collaborations.
Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:
Essential experience and skills:
- You have a PhD in Life sciences
- You are highly experienced in one or more of the following disciplines: Histology, in situ hybridisation ie RNA scope, PCR technologies, immunocytochemistry, protein detection methods, cell culture, and fluid assays
- You have an active interest in neuroscience and neuropharmacology
- Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams are essential
- Excellent English skills written and spoken
Experience in publication and grant writing, as well as scientific communication in general is important criteria
