Research assistant at the Center for Surgical Science, Department of Surgery, Zealand University Hospital, Køge
Center for Surgical Science (CSS) is looking for a research assistant with an extensive experience in molecular and cell biology for a fixed-term (2 years) position from 1 June 2025 or as soon as possible.
In CSS, we have an interdisciplinary approach to understanding and describing the pathophysiology behind short- and long-term outcomes for patients with benign or malignant diseases. Our team consists of researchers who are experts in clinical and translational research as well as in data science. Our goal is to design personalized care where everything from diagnosis, perioperative and postoperative care is in focus.
You will be employed in a dynamic team based in a well-functioning and well-established research laboratory, where we mainly focus on in vitro and ex vivo cellular models, including 3D cell cultures such as conventional epithelial colon organoids and multicellular air-liquid interface (ALI) organoids. For evaluation of cellular models we employ basic and advanced immunological and molecular assays, such as immunostaining, flow cytometry, RNA-seq and single-cell sequencing methods.
To accelerate this work, we are seeking a Research Assistant to contribute to the cell processing and culturing method optimization and maintenance. This position is offered for up to 2 years with an opportunity to transition into a PhD position in University of Copenhagen and Zealand University Hospital.
Your tasks will be:
- Optimization of cell handlings protocols for 3D cell cultures and immunological assays.
- Perform molecular biology analyses, including immunostaining (IF, IHC, H&E), RNA/DNA extraction, qPCR/dPCR.
- Perform flow cytometry experiments
- (Potentially) perform -omics assays, including single-cell sequencing and bulk transcriptomics (Nanostring, RNA-seq)
- Support with general laboratory assignments – media/buffer production, maintenance of equipment
We expect you to:
- Background in cell biology, molecular biology, biotechnology, immunology, or a related field with a master’s degree or equivalent
- Practical experience with cell and tissue handling, ideally including primary tissue or organoid culture.
- Have an extensive theoretical and practical knowledge of basic and advanced molecular and immunology assays
- Familiarity with flow cytometry and single-cell sequencing technologies (e.g., 10x Genomics, CITE-seq) and sample preparation workflows.
- Motivation to learn basic bioinformatics analysis
- Strong attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
We offer:
- An exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of tumor modeling, immunology, and translational cancer research, using state-of-the-art techniques and patient-derived material.
- The unique opportunity to work closely with clinical teams in a hospital setting, including exposure to clinical workflows and sample collection.
- A team where collegiality and good humor play a major role
- Potential transition into a PhD position
- Full time (37 hrs/week) position that starts 1 June or as soon as possible thereafter.
