The Centre for Star and Planet Formation (Starplan) is a multidisciplinary research centre focused on understanding the formation of planetary systems, including the Solar System, using a multidisciplinary approach that combines astronomy, astrophysics and cosmochemistry. The main focus of these PhD research positions is centered on elucidating the timescales and processes leading to the formation of the Solar System, including the accretion and differentiation of rocky planets, by measurement of isotopic variations in extraterrestrial materials. Project description
The project for this PhD position is part of an ERC project and will focus in mass independent sulfur isotope variations in meteorites and their component to better understand our Solar System’s early protoplanetary disk phase. As such, we seek highly-motivated individuals with a strong background in isotope geochemistry, preferably with experience in mass spectrometry and clean laboratory techniques, to join a dynamic research group and take full advantage of the state-of-the-art isotope facilities that the institution offers to pursue innovative research. The candidate must possess the credentials necessary to qualify for the PhD programme at the University of Copenhagen.

The PhD programme
A three year full-time study within the framework of the regular PhD programme (5+3 scheme), if you already have an education equivalent to a relevant Danish master’s degree.
Qualifications needed for the regular programme
To be eligible for the regular PhD programme, you must have completed a degree programme, equivalent to a Danish master’s degree (180 ECTS/3 FTE BSc + 120 ECTS/2 FTE MSc) related to the subject area of the project, e.g. isotope geochemistry, cosmochemistry, planetary sciences. Job description
Your key tasks as a PhD fellow at SUND are:
- Carrying through an independent research project under supervision.
- Completing PhD courses or other equivalent education corresponding to approximately 30 ECTS points.
- Participating in active research environments including a stay at another research team.
- Obtaining experience with teaching or other types of dissemination related to your PhD project
- Teaching and disseminating your knowledge.
- Writing a PhD thesis on the grounds of your project
Applicants must have qualifications corresponding to a master’s degree related to the subject area related to the subject area of the project or a related field. Please note that your master’s degree must be equivalent to a Danish master’s degree (two years).

- The grade point average achieved
- Professional qualifications relevant to the PhD project
- Previous publications
- Relevant work experience
- Other professional activities
- The successful applicant is also required to be enterprising and to possess good interpersonal skills
- Language skills

Employment as PhD fellow is full time and for maximum 3 years.
Employment is conditional upon your successful enrolment as a PhD student at the PhD School at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. This requires submission and acceptance of an application for the specific project formulated by the applicant.
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State. The position is covered by the Protocol on Job Structure.
Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State. Depending on seniority, the monthly salary starts at 30,700 DKK/approximately 4,100 EUR (April 2024 level) plus pension.

The further process
