About AquaGreen

AquaGreen is a Danish CleanTech company pioneering advanced drying and pyrolysis technology for wet biomass. Our patented solutions reduce environmental pollutants, enabling the recirculation of scarce nutrients, store carbon in biochar, and deliver sustainable value to wastewater utilities worldwide. We are in an accelerated scale-up phase with international expansion backed by strong investors, including Nordic Alpha Partners, FMG, Marubeni Corporation, and others.

We are now seeking a Chief Financial Officer to join our executive team and play a pivotal role in scaling AquaGreen globally.

Role Overview

The CFO will be responsible for leading AquaGreen’s financial strategy and ensuring robust, scalable financial operations as we build and commission biochar facilities internationally. We are looking for a hands-on financial leader who can manage project economics, lead financial management, negotiate major contracts and ensure stakeholder trust from investors to partners. Furthermore, you will take ownership and lead daily financial operations.

You will take ownership of:

  • Project-based finance for multiple facility build-outs (budgeting, cost tracking, variance, revenue recognition)
  • Working-capital and cash management (customer/supplier terms, collections, treasury, rolling 13-week cash view)
  • Monthly close, management reporting, board packs, audits and tax with our external partner
  • ERP/BI enablement (Business Central, Power BI): automation, data quality, and KPI dashboards
  • Cost discipline and unit-economics transparency across the business
  • Governance, risk & compliance across jurisdictions (incl. insurance, leases, key contracts) Owning and tightly following liquidity forecasts
  • Coordinate capital structure optimisation, fundraising (equity, debt, grants), and investor relations
  • Participate in contract negotiations to ensure optimal financial terms
  • Develop financial risk-sharing models with partners and customers across the world

The day-to-day bookkeeping and controlling will be handled primarily by external outsourcing partner – your responsibility will be on securing that this is done effectively and correct while focusing on strategic and high-value financial leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Capital Management

  • Ensure robust financial oversight for biochar facility construction projects, from budget planning to delivery within time and cost targets
  • Align financing structures with project milestones
  • Lead and structure financial accounting and reporting
  • Develop and maintain dynamic liquidity forecasting and scenario models including flag risk early

Strategy & Growth Enablement

  • Support AquaGreen’s international expansion through financial modelling, partner negotiations, working capital optimisation, and financial deal structuring
  • Drive automation of financial and operational systems to enable scale
  • Advise the CEO and leadership team on strategic options and business model optimisation

Investor & Stakeholder Management

  • Maintain strong investor readiness with timely, transparent reporting
  • Support capital raising efforts, including equity, debt, and non-dilutive funding
  • Manage relationships with banks, auditors, and public funding bodies

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure financial governance and compliance
  • Oversee insurance portfolios, leasing agreements, and other contractual obligations
  • Maintain solid GDPR compliance and corporate risk management systems

The Ideal Candidate

You are an experienced CFO or senior finance leader – ideally from a high-growth, international environment within in CleanTech, deeptech, industrial technology, industrial production, or capital-intensive project business. You thrive on building processes, improving systems and getting things done.

Required Competencies

  • Proven success in project-accounting and costs control in capital-intensive multi-project industries
  • Strong understanding of P&L drivers, balance sheets, budgets and forecasting for future scaling
  • Working-capital mastery and day-to-day liquidity management ERP/BI system proficiency and track record of driving automation
  • Commercial mindset with ability to link finance to strategic business goals
  • Comfortable managing outsourced partners
  • Excellent communication skills with boards, investors, and non-financial stakeholders
  • Fluent in Danish and English

What success looks like in 12 months

  • Clean, automated monthly close (<5 business days) and reliable board reporting
  • Live project dashboards with margin and cash-conversion visibility
  • 13-week cash forecast that the business runs on - and hits
  • Measurable working-capital improvement (DSO/DPO, inventory turns)
  • Finance stack (BC + BI) running smoothly with minimal manual work
