Senior Blade Specialists
We are expanding our Blade Innovation team and looking for experienced Blade Specialists in various fields of Blade Design to join our Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group European Innovation Center in Aarhus, Denmark.
The SEWPG European Innovation Center (part of Shanghai Electric, one of China’s largest leading manufacturing companies), assembles the best engineers in the global wind industry, working closely and effectively together on innovative R&D projects in advanced load simulation, rotor blade innovation and advanced control. Therefore, you have real impact and play a central role in the development of advanced technologies and innovative rotor design methods which will shape the future of wind power technology in China and globally.
Your role & responsibilities
Your role is to be the technical lead of research and development within your area of expertise in blade design. You will drive research into new technologies and leading the development of state-of-the-art toolchains and design methodologies in close collaboration with our in-house teams specializing in load simulation, software, and control design. You will act as a technical expert, setting the direction, ensuring quality, and continuously advancing our capabilities in blade design. Furthermore, you will document and present your work to both internal and external stakeholders.
Your tasks
Depending on your specialization, responsibility and tasks may include:
CFD
- Planning, executing, and analysing 2D airfoil CFD simulations to support profile development and selection.
- Conducting 3D blade and rotor CFD analyses, including transient simulations, performance predictions, and aerodynamic load evaluations.
- Validating CFD models against wind tunnel or field data, ensuring simulation accuracy and robustness.
- Developing and maintaining internal CFD best practices, tools, and automation scripts.
Structural Design
- Designing and constructing rotor blades, including feasibility studies and structural calculations using FEM.
- Continuous development of our in-house toolchain
- Conducting technical reviews of blade design and supporting the certification process.
Aerodynamic
- Performing wind turbine blade aerodynamic modeling and analysis.
- Evaluating blade planform designs and revise design philosophy.
- Model and design aerodynamic add-ons using analytical and numerical methods.
- Directing and executing wind tunnel tests, including pre- and post-processing of measurement data.
Your profile
You hold an MSc. degree or a Ph.D. in aerospace, structural, or mechanical engineering, combined with 10+ years’ experience within a specific field of wind turbine blade design with a proven track record spanning blade design, testing, production, and certification. You have strong experience in programming using Python, C++, or similar.
Your expertise may lie in CFD, structural design, or aerodynamics. You have experience with tools such as ANSYS Fluent, CFX, OpenFOAM, STAR-CCM+, or similar tools, and are comfortable working with meshing and geometry handling software (e.g., Pointwise, ANSYS Meshing). You may have worked with 2D airfoil and blade planform optimization, aerodynamic add-ons, or structural modeling using BECAS and Anys or Abaqus, and have a solid understanding of composite materials. Regardless of your specialization, you bring a strong analytical foundation and a practical mindset toward solving complex blade design challenges.
You are ambitious and have the ability to manage and lead technology development projects. You have a high level of drive and energy to create results with a strong focus on the task and you actively drive improving processes and creatively challenge the design of our blade. You can create success individually and are very capable of collaborating and interacting with stakeholders and teams in blade departments (i.e. our HQ in China), hence you possess an overall understanding of main disciplines within wind turbine operation. We expect you to thrive in working in an international, multi-cultural environment and possess excellent communication skills.
We offer
A unique opportunity to be part of our European Innovation Center, building a center of advanced technologies and rich design in a fast-paced blooming renewable energy sector while working with the best industry specialists in an informal working environment encouraging innovation. We offer favorable terms of employment and provide an inspiring international environment.
