Who can volunteer as job counselor?

When you’re chosen as job counselor

When a jobseeker chooses you as counselor, they’ll gain access to your contact information. We encourage them to email their CV and applications to you. The two of you will decide what will happen next.

When you’re chosen as job counselor, your profile is put on hold for 7 days to ensure not overwhelmed by other candidates looking for help.

What’s expected of a job counselor?

You can help candidates with their CV, applications, interviews, network etc. You’re expected to offer a bit of help and inspiration – nothing more.

What’s not expected of a job counselor?

You’re not expected to get the candidate a job or help them with bigger issues or career counseling. Here, you’ll need to refer them to job centers, unemployment insurance funds or Unions. For your own sake, we recommend that you keep a certain distance to the candidates – e.g., limit your guidance to phone calls, emails or virtual meetings.

What if it doesn’t work out?

If it’s not working out, you can terminate the guidance. There may be situations where you need to say no. We then recommend that you refer the candidate to the job center and end the guidance.

Do you receive unemployment benefits?

You are probably allowed to volunteer as a job counselor while receiving unemployment benefits, but you must ask your unemployment insurance fund permission before you sign up. They can also inform you how many hours a week you’re allowed to spend volunteering. Don’t forget to inform them that the job guidance is connected to Powerjobsøgerne, which is a voluntary organization, and that they are the ones responsible for the project - not Jobindex.

Job guidance via Powerjobsøgerne

Powerjobsøgerne are in charge of the job guidance – Jobindex is only the sponsor and facilitator. Powerjobsøgerne is a voluntary organization, which means that’s it’s allowed to volunteer for them while receiving unemployment benefits.
