DTU Civil Engineering is inviting applications for a 3-year PhD position starting summer 2018 as a part of an ongoing research project related to full-scale testing of short span concrete bridges. The project will be a part of a larger research programme in collaboration with the Danish road directorate as well as industrial partners.
Many countries suffer from a traffic infrastructure where bridges are deteriorated, need capacity upgrading or may even have to be replaced to meet today’s demands to increasing traffic and high load magnitudes.
The PhD project will be a part of a complete research programme concerning full-scale testing of one span concrete bridges up to 12m and will focus on monitoring.

In order to realize the long term goal of renewables based energy systems, the synergy between electricity, heat and gas will have to be explored. The interactions among different energy sectors will provide more flexibility required by the future renewable energy system.
This PhD project will study the flexibility and ramping requirements of integrated energy systems. Optimal dispatch and online control algorithms will be developed for multi-time-scale operation of the integrated energy systems based on model predictive control.

The European Research Council (ERC) has granted a five-year project, Atomic Insight Cavity Array Reactor, (ATOMICAR) with the aim to finally start to answer the ultimate question in nanoparticle catalysis:
- How, in atomic detail, does the catalytic reaction happen on the nanoparticles?
In order to address this question experimentally, it is necessary to quantitatively measure the catalytic conversion of single, isolated nanoparticle under relevant reaction conditions which requires an unprecedented sensitivity of about 1000 chemical turnovers/s or better. This goal will be achieved via indirect measurement of the reaction rate in a “cavity array reactor chip” which you will fabricate.

CO2 sequestration in large underground geological structures like saline aquifers and petroleum reservoirs is a major mean to reduce CO2 emission in large scale. For the success of CO2 storage and especially its long term safety, it is important to simulate the process with considerations of the relevant geochemical reactions.
