In connection with our newly granted research project “Two-dimensional silicon for electronics” from the Velux Foundation, we are offering a PhD scholarship in growth and characterization of the electronic properties of silicene.
The goal of the project is to grow silicene on inert, non-interacting substrates. The synthesis process will be performed in an ultra-high vacuum chamber equipped with a scanning probe microscope (both scanning tunneling microscope and atomic force microscope). Once the growth mechanism has been studied and understood, the PhD candidate is expected to investigate the electronic properties of silicene through spectroscopic techniques, such as angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy, in suitable synchrotron radiation facilities.
