At DTU Energy, we have considerable experience with development of 3rd generation solar cells, specifically as regards scale-up to devices that may be manufactured at high speed in large volume.
To become truly competitive as an important part of the energy supply in the future society, relying entirely on sustainable energy, we must acquire a better understanding of the fundamental processes of charge generation and transport in 3rd generation solar cells.
This scholarship is offered by DTU Energy in close collaboration with the DESY, CFEL Theory Division to form a close link between theoretical simulations of electron dynamics with experiments in materials science and X-ray scattering.

The Technical University of Denmark has an open PhD position for experimentally generating bright few-cycle mid-IR pulses using a novel external compressor. The overall goal is to provide a last compression stage of energetic laser pulses to generate mid-IR few-cycle carrier-envelope phase stable pulses.
These are required as front end for high-harmonic generation towards keV coherent X-ray few-cycle pulses. Such laser pulses can be used to delve deep into the world of the electrons and unlike synchrotron radiation the temporal resolution is high enough to compare with characteristic orbiting times of the electron around the atom (attosecond range). The compressor that this PhD position is investigating is a key tool to realize this experiment.

The Technical University of Denmark has an open PhD position (early-stage researcher) in a new research direction, where the best of quantum optics and metamaterials are merged together.
Quantum emitters (QEs) are the backbone element of quantum optics aiming for quantum cryptography and quantum computing with a strong impact on communications. The unique properties of materials with zero refractive index, where also epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) materials are classified, open a very intriguing challenge to control the interaction of quantum emitters.
In many cases depending on the wavelengths of radiation such medium does not exist in nature, but it can be constructed artificially. Here we apply the metamaterials concept, and acquire required optical properties by smart structurization.
