The PhD students will carry out research in the field of optimization and control of hybrid AC/DC grids. It is envisioned that one PhD student will focus on system control & stability and the other on distributed optimization & market operation aspects. The PhD students will also have opportunity to apply the most promising of the developed methods in a realistic lab environment in PowerlabDK.
The PhD work will focus on advanced computational techniques that incorporate uncertainty, varying inertia systems, and distributed solution methods for multi-area hybrid AC/DC grids.

This PhD project will study the flexibility requirements of integrated energy systems. As a potential market setup for integrated energy systems, a loose coordination among different energy sectors will be considered, and then the market efficiency will be assessed against a benchmark (e.g., a market setup with full coordination).
The impacts of arbitragers (either physical or virtual) and self-scheduling market players in improving the efficiency of coupled market will be investigated. Finally, a scalable market-clearing mechanism using decomposition and distributed optimization techniques will be developed.

The Hearing Systems group at the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery, and Audiology (ENT and Aud.) clinic at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen University Hospital offer a joint position as research audiologist. The position will be based mainly at DTU Lyngby Campus and partly at the three sections of the ENT and Aud. clinic at Rigshospitalet.
Audiological research is integrated both in the activities of the Hearing Systems group and the ENT & Aud. clinic in Copenhagen. The Hearing Systems group includes the internationally recognized Centre for Applied Hearing Research and the Oticon Centre of Excellence for Hearing and Speech Sciences.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a position funded by the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (MSCA-ITN) project “BBDiag” within the Horizon 2020 programme of the European Union.
The project aims to find a specific, sensitive and minimally invasive diagnostics methods to identify people with early-stage Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Lack of early diagnostics and early patient enrollment is among the main reasons for many notable clinical trial failures. The main challenges in developing the required diagnostics are identification of AD biomarkers and development of their detection techniques.

The Department of Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering group, invites applicants for a 3-year PhD study in advanced biomedical signal processing and machine learning of multimodal multichannel signals measured on patients after cancer surgery.
Major elective cancer surgery in the abdomen is associated with substantial morbidity and mortality risk despite optimized anesthesia and surgical techniques. Thus, it is estimated that severe morbidity occur in 25-35 % after abdominal cancer surgery within the first 30 days. Acute mortality is similarly unacceptable high, evidenced by national data showing 8-9 % in-hospital mortality after upper abdominal surgery, and around 4-6 % within the first 90 postoperative days.

The Hearing Systems group at Department of Electrical Engineering offerings a position as a research audiologist to help develop a new clinical test to estimate cochlear compression. The work will be conducted at the ENT and Audiology clinic at Bispebjerg Hospital. The position is for a fixed-term of 13 months.
The successful candidate will be expected to do the following:
- Recruit research participants from the Bispebjerg clinic
- Collect data for the clinical audiological research project
- Act as a contact person between research participants and scientific/administrative staff
- The position may also involve handling other administrative assignments to a limited extent

Blood is crucial for our survival and the only way to substitute for blood loss occurring during accidents or surgery is by using blood from donors. However, blood transfusions have some limitations and risks.
Thus, developing a new oxygen-carrier solution for use when red blood cells are neither an option or available persists as one of the foremost important challenges in biomedicine.
The successful candidate will work in a highly interdisciplinary project in the interface of polymer chemistry, materials science together with molecular and cell biology. The research project will be focused in the fabrication of a new class of microcarriers with potential to serve as Red Blood Cells Substitutes (RBCS).

The project ACES aims at holistically investigating technical and economic system benefits and impacts by large scale electric vehicles integration on Bornholm, augmented by real usage patterns, grid data and field testing for across continents replicability. ACES includes partners from DTU, the car manufacturer Nissan, the service provider NUVVE and Bornholm local utility (Bornholm Energi og Forsyning).
