Research in two-dimensional materials such as graphene and combinations of them has lead to many new insights in recent years, with applications including wearable electronics and sensors for medical and other purposes. Also, there is ongoing research into novel energy-efficient optoelectronic devices based on the high tunability of graphene and novel single-photon light sources in 2D materials.

A three-year experimental PhD position is available in the Structured Electromagnetic Materials group at the Department of Photonics Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark. The research project is funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark. The group is part of two Excellence Centers, the Centre of Excellence in Nanostructured Graphene (CNG) and The Center for Nanophotonics (NanoPhoton).

The PhD project will be a part of a large project comprising of both academic and industry partners covering the whole value chain from academia to start ups and large enterprises. The PhD will be conducted at DTU National Food Institute (DTU Food) in the research group of Microbial Biotechnology and Biorefining. Additionally, an external stay will be included in the project.

The project will be produce protein rich meat alternatives by converting the side-streams (Brewers Spent grains and sugar beet pulp) into food grade protein by fermentation using lactic acid bacteria and fungi. The PhD aims to obtain new knowledge on pre- and post-treatment of the two side-streams. The PhD will investigate how lactic acid bacteria influence the stability and flavor production of the side-streams after pre- and post-treatment fermentation.

The Center for Macroscopic Quantum States (bigQ) at DTU Physics is looking for excellent PhD students to work in the field of experimental quantum optomechanics with the aim of studying quantum physics in a new regime, and to develop new technologies for quantum computing and quantum communication.

In these PhD projects, we will significantly advance the field of cavity quantum optomechanics. Specifically, we will deploy novel topologically optimized mechanical oscillators with extremely high-quality factors, developed within the center, and millimetre sized crystals with high-quality acoustic modes inside high-finesse optical cavities at cryogenic temperatures. Using these extraordinary properties of the mechanical oscillators, we expect to be able to bring them into states exhibiting distinctly quantum features.

The project will develop novel computational frameworks for the analysis of dynamic social networks. In particular, the project will significantly advance upon the modeling of dynamic networks by enhancing considerably the ability to analyze massive networks through dynamic embeddings. The tools developed will allow us to visualize dynamic network structure, and forecast future interactions between entities.

The project will exploit stochastic large-scale optimization frameworks and parallel computations using PyTorch/TensorFlow and derive efficient statistical machine learning modeling tools for large dynamic network analyses.
