Postdoc of Quantum Materials
Project Description
The electronic band structure of a material contains information which is useful for quantum device engineering, such as lifetimes, scattering rates, and scattering mechanisms. The method of choice form measuring electronic band structure is Angle Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy (ARPES)
In this project, we aim to demonstrate the feasibility of measuring the electronic structure of quantum prototype structures using ARPES and closely related methods. This will be achieved by:
- Using state-of-the-art instruments that push the limits of spatial resolution.
- Patterning identical structures to increase the total area investigated while preserving individual feature sizes.
- Creating structures in delta-doped silicon, building on the extensive experience of project partners in with sample fabrication and sub-surface ARPES investigations.
- Using complementary methods, including Scanning Tunnelling Microscopy (STM), and others.
Responsibilities
The postdoc’s duties will include research within this field as well as teaching. The position may also include additional duties as necessary.
Qualifications
We welcome applicants with a strong background in ARPES and related surface science methods, including measurements and data analysis, as well as experience with sample preparation and ultra-high vacuum techniques. Knowledge of in-vacuum growth methods and silicon preparation is considered an advantage.
This is a collaborative project between research groups with complementary expertise in ARPES and sample fabrication. The position is based at NQCP in Copenhagen, but the successful candidate should be willing to travel and spend extended periods at partner institutions in Aarhus and Oslo. Travel to synchrotron facilities should also be expected.
Commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion
We recognize that diversity strengthens research and innovation. We strongly encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds, including but not limited to women, non-binary individuals, individuals from underrepresented communities, and those with disabilities. We are committed to providing an inclusive and supportive work environment where all team members can thrive.
We are also committed to fostering an inclusive work environment and will strive to accommodate personal circumstances, such as family responsibilities, where possible.
Support for relocation and travel
Relocation assistance and travel support may be available as per institutional guidelines.
Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.
The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 3 years.
Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 38,700 DKK/approx. 5,100 EUR (April 2025 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 18.07% to your pension fund
Appointment will be subject to receipt of a security clearance.
