Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences
Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences (SUND)

University of Copenhagen

The Section for Parasitology, Department of Veterinary and Animal Science (IVH), seeks to employ an assistant professor in molecular parasitology and experimental vector biology, with a special emphasis on modern molecular methods such as environmental DNA for early detection and monitoring of emerging parasitic and vector-borne diseases and vectors. These approaches should be combined with experimental and field-based approaches, to investigate impacts of climate change on the spread of parasites and vectors.

The applicant will be placed in the Parasites, Vectors and the Environment Research Group at the Section for Parasitology. The group hosts the Vector and Disease Ecology Platform that has a strong focus on green transition and sustainability and aims to strengthen Danish research and surveillance capacity within vector and vector-borne disease ecology. The Section also houses a Vector and Parasite Experimental Laboratory and the candidate will be expected to contribute to the further development of this infrastructure to perform climate warming experiments with a focus on African freshwater snails, mosquitoes and ticks. The candidate will also contribute to building the competences at the Department in relation to the Danish Veterinary Contingency work within the field of molecular parasitology and vector biology.

The assistant professor’s duties will primarily include research, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication and research-based teaching and supervision with associated examination obligations, at all levels within molecular parasitology and vector biology and ecology. To a limited extent this may also include performance of other duties.

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, internationally competitive research. The ability to attract external funding will be considered together with outreach qualifications. Teaching qualifications are not mandatory but documented teaching qualifications and teaching experience will be considered.

Six overall criteria apply for assistant professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for the overall assessment of candidates. Furthermore, each candidate must be assessed according to the specific requirements stated in the job advertisement.
