Energy Machines ApS
København K

Senior Technical Design Manager

At Energy Machines, we do not waste time or play by the old rules. On the contrary, we are energy rebels on a mission: To decarbonize the built environment and accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.

Our philosophy is simple: capture and move energy which already exists around us, and avoid burning fossil fuels and biomass. At Energy Machines, we design and deliver turnkey integrated energy systems that electrify heating and cooling using heat pumps, geothermal energy storage, and heat recovery. We provide a full value chain service – supporting our customers from early project conception through to system operation. With a portfolio of over 100 successful projects, we are proud to transform buildings from brown to green while setting a new standard for energy efficiency.

We are looking for a Senior Technical Design Manager to join our Copenhagen office and lead our Design team in delivering best-in-class energy system designs while contributing directly to the continued scale-up of our business.

About the role

As Senior Technical Design Manager in Copenhagen, you will lead our existing Design team and serve as the key representative of our design efforts both internally and externally. You will collaborate closely with our Sweden-based Design team and help shape the overall approach and philosophy of modularity in our integrated energy systems.

The role requires both high-level strategic thinking and strong technical execution. You should be able to build trust and provide confidence when communicating with both internal and external stakeholders, including customers and their advisors, about our integrated energy systems.

In addition to being capable of producing detailed designs yourself, you will as manager be responsible for leading and developing the existing Design team to ensure we consistently deliver best-in-class designs, both on time and cost-efficiently.

This role is also part of the leadership group for our Copenhagen office and will play a key role in supporting the continued scale-up of Energy Machines.

Your responsibilities

  • Lead the Copenhagen-based Design team and ensure we continue to deliver best-in-class designs both timely and cost-efficiently, while actively developing the team.
  • Take on complex design tasks yourself and be overall technically responsible for all designs.
  • Work closely with and support the other project-focused teams, i.e., R&D, Sales, Legal, and Operations teams, to enable a complete holistic approach that supports our customers through the full value chain of their projects.
  • Build trust by effectively communicating complex design details to internal and external stakeholders at every level and throughout all project phases.

Your background and profile

We are looking for a team member who is:

  • Experienced in detailed HVAC system or process plant design, including sizing and selecting components such as pumps, heat exchangers, etc. and developing piping and instrumentation diagrams. This experience should span from early project feasibility studies through to final executable system designs, with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Skilled in working with Molio descriptions/component lists and synchronization with control system designs.
  • Collaborative and open to working closely with other teams, helping develop their skills in geothermal and heat-recovery systems. You should also be willing to challenge “traditional” design criteria – such as system temperatures and building demands (heating, cooling, domestic hot water).
  • An experienced team manager with a proven track record of leading HVAC design teams and delivering both personal and financial results.
  • A capable project manager who can effectively organize your own workload and that of your team, coordinating tasks both internally and externally.
  • Proficient in communicating complex design concepts clearly to both high-level customer representatives and detailed consultants and contractors.
  • Skilled at IT, as we are a software-first company and aim to integrate digital solutions into our design process
  • Fluent in spoken and written English and Danish.

It would be an advantage if your background includes:

  • Experience in designing heat pump and geothermal-based energy systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of building automation/PLC based control systems.
  • Experience in commissioning and follow-up on building/system performance
  • BIM/CAD management

What you will get from us

We offer a purposeful job where you will be able to make a substantial difference. You will be working to develop the core of our business, ensuring that Energy Machines can continue to grow and deliver projects on time, with high quality, and with profit. You will also get:

  • Experience designing heat pump and geothermal-based energy systems.
  • Expanded knowledge and understanding of building automation and PLC-based control systems.
  • Experience with commissioning and performance follow-up of building turnkey energy systems.
  • The opportunity to meaningfully affect the green transition

At Energy Machines, we work with high morale in a flat structure and an informal tone. We are busy, but never too busy to support and take care of each other, and we place great emphasis on humor and work-life balance.
