We are looking for a Machine Learning Scientist with expertise in Python-based data science, and a solid understanding of ML development best practices, including experimental design and deployment of models in real-world applications.
Why should you join FOSS?
You’ll join a team of experienced ML scientists and contribute to the development of robust, scalable solutions that enhance our instruments and services.
You will be responsible for developing and evaluating machine learning and optimization algorithms, with a focus on:
Finalization and deployment of deep learning models for spectroscopic analysis project with support from other machine learning scientists by
- Assisting in customer field tests and model tuning
- Collecting and curate internal data for model validation and performance testing.
Assisting in defining and prototyping analytical layers that enhance FOSS digital offerings. That could be
- Optimizing model selection and update strategies.
- Develop analytical models and decision-support systems for predictive analytics to optimize maintenance strategies and reduce downtime.
Support in developing ways of working with Python-based applications through
- Streamlining workflows for reproducibility and scalability
- Contributing to the evolution of team-wide ways of working through improved collaboration, tooling, and documentation standards.
Who are we?
You will work in cross functional project teams alongside software developers, fellow ML scientists, and stakeholders from marketing and service. Your role will include:
- Structure complex problems and translate them into analytical models across the data chain for FOSS instruments.
- Define data requirements and algorithmic strategies to meet performance targets, supported by rigorous experimental design and validation.
- Collaborate with domain experts and customers to understand operational workflows, identify analytical opportunities, and ensure solutions align with real-world needs.
- Contribute to scalable, data-driven solutions and develop testing protocols to support model validation, deployment, and continuous improvement.
About you
You hold an MSc or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematical Engineering, or a related field, and bring:
- Strong programming skills in Python.
- Experience in best practices of machine learning model development.
- Knowledge of data science methodologies: experimental design, statistical analysis, hypothesis testing.
- Familiarity with deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) or willingness to learn.
- Interest in working with the full data chain of analytical instruments.
It is a bonus if you have experience with Machine Learning Operations (MLOps), including deploying Python-based ML pipelines to cloud environments. Familiarity with scalable infrastructure, CI/CD for ML workflows is a plus.
As a person you are structured and collaborative when part of a cross-disciplinary team. You’re curious about new problems and thrive on understanding and solving tasks. Your record of accomplishments shows an ability to understand complex systems and to work systematically with troubleshooting, incl. designing and performing experiments. Further, you are open-minded and want to succeed as a team and help your colleagues. If you recognize yourself in the above description, we look forward to hearing from you.
We offer
We offer a motivating job in an international, dynamic, and innovative organization. We are market leaders within our field and very proud of the results we deliver. Innovation is the foundation for FOSS´ success and we therefore have a strong focus on R&. Foss is small enough for you to get high influence in the job, and big enough for complex development and career development.
The daily work takes place in an innovative and cross-disciplinary environment offering exciting tasks and the possibility to learn new things every day. You will be part of the Machine Learning team in R&D, which is responsible for algorithmic innovation and development of FOSS’ solutions. As a team, we hold a high level of experience within data analysis and machine learning and strive at delivering cutting-edge creative algorithmic solutions that challenge the way of thinking. We are open-minded to new ideas and have an informal and humorous tone.
