UI/UX Designer for the next generation of analytical solutions

Do you want to create a first-class user experience of analytical solutions?

For more than 60 years, FOSS have created analytical solutions for food and feed producers around the world. As a UI/UX Designer You will play a pivotal role in the creation of the user experience of the next generation of FOSS instruments. You will take part in driving the consistency in the user experience across instruments anchored in the platform software.

Create the best user experience of FOSS analytical solutions

The UI/UX team is anchored in R&D Software platform, which is the foundation for all new instrument projects. The team is self-organizing and works on tasks for both the software platform and for specific instrument projects. The team is responsible for the development and maintenance of our common FOSS design system, and the definition of best practices, with respect to user interaction and the good user experience.

All functionality that goes across multiple solutions is developed in the platform software. An example of a platform feature could be a user management system. As a UI/UX designer you will work together with the platform Product Owner, to make sure that all the requirements are clear, and you will drive the design and verification with our internal “customers” (the projects). When the design is ready for implementation, you will take part in handing over the design to the software development team.

Other feature requests may be specific to an instrument project. This could be a start-up or maintenance guide. In this case, you will work closely with the instrument team and SW Product Owner, to nail the required workflow with the best user experience. This could involve user interviews, “quick and dirty” user tests with internal experts, or participation in field tests at our customers. You will create the designs/prototypes before the field test, but you could also join as a facilitator, if you find this part interesting.

The platform is the heart of the analytical solution software

Our team is a diverse and multicultural team of 15 people comprising software developers, test automation, product owner, UI/UX Designers, UX specialists, and student helpers. We believe that working close together as one team fosters great designs with fewer iterations.
Our working culture is based on trust and teamwork. We often have common workshops to discuss specific functionality and designs or the way we work, and every week the whole team is having rotating 1:1 inspirational talks to learn from each other. These sessions are really valued in the team.

Do you have what it takes?

  • M.Sc. level in Digital design, Design and Innovation or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of experience with UI/UX design
  • Proficiency in design and prototyping tools, preferably Figma and Adobe Illustrator
  • Excellent visual communication and design skills
  • Mastering the UX toolbox; user journey mapping, sitemaps, workflows, ect.
  • Professional fluency in written and spoken English

To succeed in the role, you need to be a great collaborator with a curious and creative mindset. You are a do’er that makes things happen and love to see great designs come alive from initial sketches to running software on the instruments.

It is a great benefit if you are a tech enthusiast that loves to collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, as our instrument projects involves specialists within hardware, measurement chain, data scientist, to name a few, and the user-experience will be a result of the teams’ work.

Your daily work will be in FOSS Innovation Center in Hilleroed, but you should expect 5-10 travelling days per year.

Sustainability is an integral part of our business

At FOSS, we have a taken a holistic approach to Sustainability. It’s not only about conducting our business in a responsible and ethical manner. It’s also about developing solutions that make a difference in the world. We are operating in a world with significant population growth, scarce resources, food safety scandals and growing concerns about the climate. As the leading business-to-business provider of dedicated analytical technology, we play a key role in this environment.

For example, our technology is increasingly important in expanding food supply by making rational use of increasingly limited resources, while ensuring the best quality food reaches the consumer. To address this challenge there is a need for the development of solutions that analyze and make data manageable and actionable throughout the production process. Information management of analytics will be the future of the food and feed industry, enabling producers to increase yields by being more efficient. Intelligent and automated processes that run on data will define our customers’ future production - and much of the 10% of our turnover we annually invest in research and development will be dedicated to this area.
