The National Food Institute (DTU Food) offers two PhD positions within the field of microbiology and ecology of the intestine.

- PhD1: Delivery of probiotics by micro-containers: This PhD will investigate the use of nano- and microfabricated containers, produced by our colleagues at DTU Nanotech, for delivery of selected probiotic bacteria into the intestinal environment of germ-free and conventional mice.
- PhD2: New strategies for treatment of Ulcerative Colitis (UC): This PhD will investigate the potential of ingestion of specific bacteria and mixtures of bacteria within nano- and microfabricated containers for treatment and alleviation UC in animal models.
The Section for Astrophysics and Atmospheric Physics at DTU Space seeks excellent applicants for a PhD position in X-ray physics and astronomical instrumentation.

The positions are part of the Sino-Danish Center for Education and Research (SDC). A 3-year PhD scholarship in the field of nanomaterial chemistry is available at the Department of Chemistry.
The PhD scholarship is expected to start on the 1st of April or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate can join a newly established, young research team, which is a part of the NanoChemistry Group, Organic and Inorganic Chemistry section at DTU Chemistry.
The successful candidate should have a Master’s degree in chemistry, materials science or physics, specifically with:
- Strong experimental background of material chemistry or inorganic chemistry.
- Prior experience of optoelectronic nanomaterials especially colloidal QDs including material synthesis and basic characterization (e.g. SEM, TEM, XRD, UV-Vis and PL spectroscopies) is preferred

We offer a PhD fellowship at Department of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (DTU Bioengineering) at the Technical University of Denmark. The PhD project will be executed at the Bacterial Interactions and Evolution group in the Section for Microbial and Chemical Ecology.
We study microbial interactions using molecular microbiology and microscopy techniques combined with laboratory evolution. Our aim is to understand how the ecology of Bacilli is affected by interactions and adaptation, how Bacilli colonize the rhizosphere and compete with other microorganisms and how we can harvest this knowledge for biocontrol and production purposes.
A 3-year PhD scholarship is available from 1 April 2018 in the Automation group at DTU Electrical Engineering. The project Distributed and modular bio-inspired architecture for motor learning and control is a research project co-funded by the European project: the Human Brain Project (HBP).
In this particular research project we seek to elucidate the basic principles of motor learning and control based on different bio-inspired studies, among whom the cerebellar role in motor adaptation. The project aims at applying new learning and control architectures in order to achieve adaptability performance. The project deals with theoretical as well as experimental approaches.

A position as PhD student in radiochemistry and environmental radioactivity is available in the Radioecology Section, Hevesy Laboratory Division at the Center for Nuclear Technologies (DTU Nutech), at DTU Risø Campus, Roskilde, Denmark.
About 40 employees work in the Division with 15 employees in the Radioecology Section. Work in the Section covers research on radioactivity in marine and terrestrial environments, monitoring programmes and risk assessment of environmental radioactivity, commercial analytical services, public-sector consultancy and innovation covering application and development of radioanalytical methods.

Technical University of Denmark (DTU) has an open PhD position (early-stage researcher) in the H2020 MSCA ITN RealVision project at DTU Fotonik.
The goal of the project is to encode light field image data for flexible access and processing. Light field video and imaging lead to very large amounts of data and coding is crucial to utilize the data efficiently. High-quality coding of light field data facilitating interactive, visually oriented applications will be developed.
The coding scheme will be based on modelling relations of subsets, e.g. close-by views and efficient coding of these. For modelling, advanced flow and motion estimation formulations will be established for subsets of the data.

DTU Electrical Engineering seeks qualified and talented candidates for a vacant PhD position in Counteraction Planning based on Multilevel Flow Modelling.
The purpose of the project is to extend the current reasoning platform with algorithms to generate action plans for the operator based on on-line information about causes and consequences of plant disturbances. The reasoning system will be applied for operator decision support in fault and disturbance management.
On-line decision support is currently supported in industrial plants by procedures or operating manuals. These procedures and operating instructions are predefined and based on previous operational experience and are often incomplete or too generic.
The overall aim of the project is to develop reasoning algorithms for counteraction planning based on Multilevel Flow Modelling.
DTU Compute’s Section for Cognitive Systems, would like to invite applications for a 3-year PhD position starting as early as possible. The project is financed by a starting grant from the European Research Council.
The project focus on learning locally adaptive metrics and building statistical models that respect these. We model the locally adaptive metric as a Riemannian metric, which gives a firm mathematical foundation to build upon.
We are interested in building both theoretical foundations and practical algorithms working with this class of models. Working on this, you will develop new insights using differential geometry, machine learning, probability theory, and much more. The focus of the project will depend on the chosen candidate.
A new PhD scholarship in transport and urban economics is available at the Transport Economics group at DTU Management Engineering. The Transport Economics group is part of the System Analysis Division, which is placed within the Department of Management Engineering at DTU.
The division conducts basic and applied research within the area of energy system analysis, transport economics, policy instruments, regulatory issues, energy demand, and climate science In this PhD project, we will study the economic impacts of transport and land-use policies using microeconomic theory and microeconometrics.

A PhD fellowship is available at Department of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (DTU Bioengineering) at the Technical University of Denmark. The position will be placed in the Enzyme and Protein Chemistry group in the section of Protein Science and Signaling Biology with about 30 staff members.
The project work for this position includes: production of recombinant b-lactoglobulin and analysis of sites interacting with designed alginate oligosaccharides using NMR; cross-linking of b-lactoglobulin as well as whey protein mixture and identification of cross-linked amino acid residues using mass spectrometry; evaluation by in vitro digestion using articificial gastrointestinal tract systems of cross-linked protein (whey protein mixtures) in complex with alginate for validation of functional effects.
The Center for Magnetic Resonance at DTU’s Department of Electrical Engineering (DTU Elektro) would like to invite applications for a 3-year PhD position starting spring 2018.
The project is co-funded by the Danish Cancer Society and is part of a collaborative project that aims to improve radiotherapy of patients suffering from secondary tumours in the brain.

The Materials and Surface Engineering section in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark is seeking candidate for 1 PhD position in the field of “Corrosion reliability of electrical contacts” focusing on understanding the material combinations and failure mechanisms in Au based contacts used today, and the development of new contact system material combinations.

A 3-year PhD position is available at the Plasma Physics and Fusion Energy (PPFE) Section at DTU Physics. The section works with magnetically confined plasmas from a theoretical and experimental point of view with the focus on making fusion energy a commercially attractive energy source. The section is internationally recognized for its work with edge plasma turbulence and its work in the field of microwave scattering.
The planned research deals with increasing the heating efficiency of plasmas, a key element in realizing fusion energy on earth. The research is a part of a bigger focus area and you will be a part of a growing research team funded by the VILLUM young investigator programme with fellow PhD students and post docs.
