Specialist - Data Platform Operations Engineer

We are looking for a Data Platform Operations Engineer to join our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team. In this role, you will be responsible for the support, maintenance, and continuous improvement of our Azure-based data platform — ensuring it runs smoothly, securely, and efficiently.

How will you make an impact

You will be part of the SRE team supporting the Agriculture, Sustainability, and Communication IT department. Your mission is to ensure that the data solutions built by our development teams are reliable, observable, and scalable.

As a Data Platform Operations Engineer focused on the Data Platform reliability, you will work with complex systems and a variety of operational tasks. You will monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with stakeholders across the organization.

You will work closely with the other Data Engineers in the department both from the SRE team but also in the development teams, Support Specialists in the team, DevOps Engineers and Data Architects to ensure the platform meets performance and availability goals, in order to maintain the systems reliability and resilience.

Your tasks will include;

• Implement and maintain observability tools in Azure (e.g., Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights).
• Monitor service-level objectives (SLOs) and proactively address performance and reliability issues.
• Respond to incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes.
• Automate operational tasks such as log analysis, system checks, and performance tuning.
• Maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and incident response procedures.
• Collaborate with development teams to ensure reliability and scalability of data solutions.
• Conduct capacity planning and optimize resource utilization for cost efficiency.
• Ensure security and compliance through proactive monitoring and governance.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using Azure DevOps and Terraform.
• Assist Cloud DevOps engineer and other Data Engineer with governance of the Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform to provision and manage cloud resources.

What Will Make You Successful

With some of experience working with cloud-based data platforms, preferably in Azure, you have a proven track record of supporting and maintaining production-grade data pipelines and services. Your hands-on background spans Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Azure Functions, Web Apps, API Management, and SQL databases. A solid grasp of monitoring, alerting, and incident response in cloud environments underpins your work, and you apply Python and SQL for automation, data manipulation, and scripting. You’re also familiar with CI/CD pipelines, Terraform, and Azure DevOps, with added exposure to cloud-native data architectures such as the Data Lakehouse and Data Mesh.

You bring an operational mindset, proactively identifying risks and ensuring system stability. As a strong communicator, you collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams. Problems are approached with a structured, analytical mindset, and you’re self-driven, take initiative, and thrive in fast-paced environments.
