Become our Student Assistant to the Secretary-General

The IRCT is currently seeking a student assistant to provide support to the organisation’s Secretary-General. Working at the IRCT will provide you with a good understanding of the functioning of an international organisation, the human rights sector and global anti-torture initiatives. As a student assistant, you will have a number of varied tasks. You will work directly with the Secretary General, which will provide a good insight into management, coordination and administration.

We seek candidates who fit the following profile:

  • Relevant education within Business Management, Organisational Management, Development Studies, Law, Communications, Human resource management Economics and Finance or similar.
  • Fluency in English, both written and oral, with solid communication skills. Danish would be considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills, including numeracy proficiency
  • Strong planning skills and ability to multitask against tight deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, as well as the ability to engage with colleagues and other stakeholders from different backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Technical skills for digitally based work and experience in using Microsoft package
  • Interest in human rights and the mission of IRCT
  • You must be currently enrolled in an educational programme – both master and bachelor students will be considered for this position.

The Student Assistant will have the following tasks:

  • Support the Secretary-General in tasks related to the day-to-day management, the work of the Executive Committee and IRCT staff;
  • Participate in various meetings incl. preparation of agendas and minutes of meetings (team meetings, staff meetings and management meetings);
  • Give input and collaborate with the substantive work of the Secretary-General and the team responsible for Output 5 in IRCT’s Strategy (activities related to Governance, Internal and External Communication, Monitoring & Evaluation).
  • Take responsibility for several administrative tasks and act as a link between the Secretary-General and the team, including managers and other staff members.
  • Various ad hoc tasks.

Terms of employment:

The position will be 15 hours per week. Initially, you will be required to work three fixed days every week. There will be flexibility according to the student’s academic calendar, for example during exam periods, etc. We also expect you to manage your schedule to attend as many relevant meetings and events as possible. It is desired that you can start working as soon as possible.
